16 Forest Street, Newbury
We had just SOLD our rehabbed property at 16 Main Street, Newbury and less than 2 weeks later, we BOUGHT a new property at 16 Forest Street, Newbury (right down the road from the house we sold)! This charming farmhouse was built in the late 1800's and was once a horse farm - complete with a barn and pasture. Our plan is to turn the barn into a two-car garage and the pasture into a separate lot with a new house!
But first we will rehab the existing house. It is about 1300 square feet and features 2 bedrooms, 1 and a half baths, a large great room, an eat-in kitchen, an

office/den, and a sun room. It is on a quiet, dead-end street near the town forest with plenty of walking trails yet less than a mile from I-95. Our challenge is to retain the existing rustic charm (wide pine floors, exposed beams and brick) while modernizing it for today's standards. We plan to reside the barn and add new windows to it, and to redo the kitchen and full bath, paint the entire house, refinish the existing pine floors, plus update the electric service. When it is done, it will be a rustic-style farmhome - perfect for a first time buyer or down-sizer.
